It is never safe to look directly at the Sun, even during an eclipse. To view the eclipse safely, you must use special eclipse glasses or a solar filter. You can also project the image of the Sun onto a white surface using a telescope or binoculars.

If you are unable to obtain eclipse glasses or a solar filter, you can still enjoy the eclipse by viewing it through a pinhole projector. To make a pinhole projector, simply poke a small hole in a piece of cardboard and hold it up to the Sun. The image of the Sun will be projected onto the ground or a white surface behind the cardboard.
